A new Chapter of Life Begins for Jake

Today Lori, Rod and Matt took Jake to school at Northern Illinois University. They set up Jake's room in Douglas Hall and were able to eat lunch together. Move in was a breeze as jake was able to move in early becasue of the Honors program. Jake is in the Honors program so he had an Honors retreat that started in the afternoon until Thursday afternoon. Lori called and we were both crying and Matt was having a really tough time with Jake leaving. Here is Jake in his "new" home! Heading off for the Honors Retreat.

Cardinals and Cousins

Last week my little cousin, Nick, was in from Denver. Nick is Jill's son. He has really become a sports fan in the last 18 months. On his trip to STL one thing he wanted to do was attend a Cardinals game! I was able to get some great tickets, down the 1st base line and 10 rows off the field. Uncle Mike and Kyle went to the game with Nick and me.

I thought Nick would love it if we could get a ball . . well, I decided it never hurts to ask. We were sitting close enough that I went and asked the ball usher (not sure if that is what he is called) that sits down the first base line. I explained about Nick being from Denver and wanting to come to the game and was there any chance of him possibly getting a ball. The usher looked up and said you mean for the little guy up there munching on Cracker Jacks, I said that's him. He said he would try but he had no guarantee if a ball would come his way but he'd try. He said he loves when kids get a ball! Manny Ramirez hit a home run into the bleachers and it was thrown back by a fan . . .our usher ran out and got the ball and montioned for myself and Nick to come down. You should have seen the fans around us trying to figure it out but that was nothing compared to the smile and pure joy on Nick's face!Kyle was a great sport explaining so much to Nick. More of the story is a few days before the game Uncle Mike called to see if Ludwick was a good shirt and I said Oh Yea! Albert Pujols hit a grand slam and then Ludwick a homerun after Pujols. Fireworks and much shouting and jumping. Nick wanted to stay to the end of the game and we did. Nick told me I had planned a perfect game :)

It was a perfect night!

Celebrating Marlin and Carolyn's 50th Anniversary

Mom and Dad will be married 50 years on August 16th. What they wanted to do for their anniversary was to have our "12" go away for a weekend. Last weekend we went to Eagle Creek Resort on Lake Shelbyville. We had a great weekend together. We started with Mom, Dad and Nancy meeting Lori and Matt in Shelbyville for a gourmet lunch at . . .
The Chicago dogs, chili dogs and fried dill pickle spears were quite yummy! We then headed off to Eagle Creek. We met up with JD's family late afternoon and hung out in the pool . By evening Rod and Jake had joined us. Friday night Dad and Mom had organized a miniature golf tournament . . Kyle 1st , Nancy 2nd, I think Eric 3rd and then Carla got the first hole in one (followed by Mom getting the only other one!) We won gift cards to McDonald's.

Saturday we got a pontoon boat and a big tube for the day . . the pontoon boat had some "issues" and by the time it was all said and done they didn't even charge us for the boat! We did manage to have fun on the boat and Lori and Rod took the boys out tubing all afternoon on Lake Shelbyville. Lori was the only adult to try it and bless her heart - we discovered after she was already in the water there was no ladder to get back in the boat. It is not so easy to get in when you only have water to step on! The boys were able to do it without trouble :)
The guys were able to float, kneel and stand on the tube. I didn't get very good pics but JD took a bunch and we will have to get him to post some.

At one point the 5 boys and a couple adults were up near the front of the boat and we hit some wake and started taking in serious water. Dad began to shout we were going down - disaster was averted as folks moved near the rear. Dad was out of his head on the boat so it was best to get him to dry land! The pool was enjoyable that afternoon and then Captain Kruse took some adults out for a lake cruise.

Saturday night we celebrated Mom and Dad's anniversary - had a nice meal together, then Lori got us in a banquet room where we played games and had cake and gifts. Thanks Mom and Dad!Mother tried to get a picture of all of us together and a lady at the resort took the pic and none of them were very good - gotta go with what we got .... It has been a busy week and more to post . . the computer has been broken but we are now back in business so watch for more updates - cars, Cardinals, cousins, and a birthday coming up!

How Does Your Garden Grow - Lori

Matt and I are impressed with Rod's gardening this year. Of course, it
helps that we have had 15 inches more rain than usual. Just thought I would
share these pretty pictures. Matt picked the one red tomato before I took
the picture. We should have tons of tomatoes by next week. We had zucchini
from the garden too. Lori PS-Nancy, this can be Rod's one blog contribution:)
